This compilation just misses being the perfect single-CD anthology, and it's a crying shame because it comes so close. Its main virtue is that, in contrast to - the only compilation of 's work approved by the artist - it extends its reach past 1968. The last of the tracks come from the abortive album, left unfinished at the time of his death, and show off a more R&B and soul-oriented sound than was generally known for - and are worth the price of the disc by themselves. In fact, some of these cuts recall 's history with, but done his way, with the range of sounds that he was generating in 1970.
The disc concludes with the obligatory live version of 'The Star Spangled Banner' from Woodstock, which is of massive historical and cultural importance. Where it falls short is by leaving out 'Can You See Me' and 'Remember,' which are on - it's a pity because the presence of two of those cuts (which, in fairness, can be found on ) would make this compilation perfect in most respects.
I will remove all humility and say that I am an expert when it comes to Jimi's music!Great price!! Do not take this personal, I just happened to express my opinion on your post!I have looked at over 500 posts on here and yet to find anything rare or worthwhile!! It is all a hodge podge of material mixed together by different people from all over the world from 1963 to 1970.This gives me a broader sense of the Millions of dollars profited off of him throughout the world,it is sad in a sense.I had the pleasure of knowing Al Hendrix and meeting him several timespictures to prove it! and my older brother saw him in Philly on 4.12.1969!What brought me to this website was an album called 'Multicolored Blues'. I wanted to get that but it seems unattainable! If you could help me in that regard I would appreciate it!ciao,Roberto.
