Have not heard a whole lot bad about them but as far as a shorter production run I'm gonna guess that when the 656 came out it could still be the heavy hitter or main heavy tillage tractor for a lot of farms and was small enough to do the small jobs easily too.
By the time the 666 came out I'm gonna speculate that guys needed more horsepower for the 'big' tractor and the 9's and 10's could also do a lot of the smaller jobs yet so why buy th 6 when the 9 or 10 was just a little more expensive and the horsepower gains significant. 66. Sean the 606 was not a popular tractor.
Basically a gussied up 460 utility with 3 point hitch. IH did the same thing Ford did with the 6000. Look at the 5000 and 7000. Ford didn't do the 6000 untill the 6600 series.
Plus the 656 had better(?????) shifting than the 606 and a better hydraulic system with torsion bar draft sensing. Plus 656 was halfway between 606 and 706 numerically. This is just my opinion. EasonIts funny some of the tractor models that followed were just a slightly improved version.
Basically the same tractor but only a few modifications. Like the C,SC,200,230 and the 240. Same tractor just a sheet metal change and a few mecanical improvements but same basic design.
One thing that puzzles me is why the 656 was out the same time as the 706, 806, 1206? They had the 606 as a standard only correct? Why couldn't they made a 606 row crop as the 656 had the same look as the 06 series did? And then unvale the 56 series. That confuses me more than the use of 666. At least those models were about the same time.the 656 came out about a year and a half after the 06 series, to fill in the gap in hp between the 504 and 706.
The shifting change was promoted a lot at the time. 606 never really caught on.
I would like a computer that can handle heavy gaming, with the option of being able to use high spec software such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc.
